Every February 2, World Wetlands Day is celebrated. This day was chosen as the anniversary of the Ramsar Convention, held in 1971 in the Iranian city. This international agreement promotes the conservation and wise use of wetlands, and is the only global treaty that focuses on a single ecosystem.
