For many companies, remote work is a recent form of employment that started in the COVID-19 pandemic. However, for Coderio it’s a reality since day one, back in 2018, when with Eugenia Kessler set out to create the ideal DEVs team for each project, wherever they are, without geographical limits.

Growing up is part of the DNA of our StartUp, hence we never hesitate to look for the best software engineer talent in the region to guarantee quality and efficiency to our clients.

Although at that time we had a central office in Buenos Aires (Argentina), a large part of the team came from other countries, so virtuality was always present in the work dynamics and that allowed us to be prepared when the pandemic broke out in 2020.

Today, as a consequence of this diversity of cultures that identify our team, we set up in Miami (Florida, EE.UU.), where the headquarters of Coderio is currently located.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The concept of teleworking is over 40 years old. It emerged in the US while a NASA scientist was doing research on reducing the transfer of workers to their offices, and its consequent reduction in transportation and pollution problems.

Back then resources were poor, but with technological advances it really improved. Today, 42% of companies in Argentina have more than half of their staff doing telecommuting, while in Chile 1 in 3 enterprises have already incorporated remote work permanently, and Colombia, LATAM’s pioneer country in legislating this modality, last year passed a new rule to update the “work from home.”

THE CHALLENGE TO FIT IN

Times have changed and remote work is here to stay, but what about companies that could not adapt to virtuality?

To keep up, businesses must take this transition seriously, which means investing in the right equipment and modern tools to facilitate connectivity.

It is also essential to put on professional messaging and task management platforms, which are very useful for communication between collaborators and the organization of material.

Thus, companies that did not meet these requirements had more difficulties to fit into the context and today they may have been left out of the transformations that are being experienced in the employment’s world.

BENEFITS OF HOME OFFICE

The advantages of working from home are many, both for companies and their collaborators. In the software sector, it is a central factor when hiring staff or choosing the job of your dreams.

  • Wellness

It’s a great option to unify our professional and personal life, which will help to reduce stress and mental exhaustion. According to an InfoJobs report on teleworking, in collaboration with The Cocktail Analysis, 48% of those surveyed highlighted that remote work contributed to the balance between employment and family, and 23% admit to feeling less tension and anxiety.

  • Flex time

It allows us to manage schedules, be owners of our time and, thus, find the best way to organize our daily routine. This point is central for remote workers, following the InfoJobs survey: 55% valued the savings in travel time as the main advantage of this work model and 46% appreciated time flexibility as a fundamental spot.

  • Cost reduction

We have more control of our pocket, since meals outside home and transport costs are avoided. 44% of those surveyed rated savings in travel expenses as the main benefit of teleworking, according to the InfoJobs report.

  • Productivity

By not having to depend on external factors, such as traffic, delays and other distractions, we can perform more and better in our jobs. According to another study, prepared by Data Center Market, 63% of companies experienced an increase in productivity during the third quarter of 2020, while around 26% of employees noticed a notable increase in their autonomy and the optimization of their working day labor.

  • Equal opportunities

Remote employment also promotes the democratization of access to work, as well as decentralization since, under the traditional modality, the population that lives outside the big cities is often excluded or forced to move to another city, district, etc. But, like any employment contract, it also implies a series of obligations in the company-personal relationship: voluntariness, digital disconnection, provision of equipment, work tools and support necessary for the performance of tasks, among others.

POST-PANDEMIC PROJECTIONS: OFFICE ON DEMAND

Of course there are those who prefer office life, meeting colleagues, and face-to-face encounters. A mixed work system, that combines virtuality with presence, is the other great trend that has been installed throughout the world.

Based on the coderians‘ suggestions, we are evaluating the possibility of creating coworking spaces ‘on demand’ so that the team can come whenever they want, individually or in groups. This is a process aimed at generating these community spaces with global reach, in all the areas where we have a presence (USA, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Scotland, etc.), in order to offer the same opportunities for everyone.

In summary, both the mixed and 100% remote modality are the new forms of employment of the future and it is up to companies to accept the challenge or fall behind, losing their social, economic and ecological impact like wellness between work and family, more savings and less environmental pollution.

AN IDEAL PLACE TO SET UP AND GROW

Therefore, within an unstoppable expansion, Coderio is considered an ideal environment for those who develop in the in the world of information and technology cause it has the resources and the experience; as well as guaranteeing a valuable virtual space for the teams, including exclusive benefits for those who are part of this universe.
